Moving house, selling your home, spring cleaning, your children moving out, these are all reasons why you suddenly have a mountain of hard rubbish cluttering your spare room and driving you to despair. Despite your best attempts to offload your old couch to the neighbour, or your burnt out toaster to your relatives, some pieces of your rubbish simply need disposing of outside of the weekly rubbish bin collection, and taken to a place where it can often be recycled.

Essentially, we are talking about hard rubbish, and in this article, we will take you through the need to know information about what hard rubbish is, where you can best access hard rubbish removal, and how easy it is to rid yourself of your hard rubbish today!

What is Hard Rubbish?

Before we talk about the best ways to dispose of hard rubbish, it’s essential to understand what you can throw away in your normal, weekly bins, and what needs separate collection by specific hard rubbish removalists. Hard rubbish is classified as big, bulky items, normally furniture, electrical items and sizeable equipment that won’t fit into normal bins, or that cannot be broken down to fit into the council bin compactors.

How do you Dispose of Hard Rubbish?

When you have rubbish, it needs to go, and if you are like most people, waiting for any length of time for your hard rubbish removal to happen can be very frustrating.

The best way to dispose of hard rubbish is by booking a specific hard rubbish removal, a designated pick up to take all of your unwanted furniture and household items on one, convenient date, decided on by you.

What Classifies as Hard Rubbish?

The following questions are commonly asked about what classifies as hard rubbish, and what does not.

Can you put bikes in hard rubbish collection? Yes, push bikes are best to be disposed of during a hard rubbish collection.

Can you put mattresses in hard rubbish collection? Absolutely. It is essential mattresses are disposed of in this way, so they can be properly recycled.

Can you put carpet in hard rubbish collection? It is best to put carpet in your hard rubbish collection, as opposed to your normal bin, simply due the size and volume. Worth noting that council bins are limited by weight and what you are allowed to place in them.

What else? The following list takes you through what is considered hard rubbish:

Furniture – couches, bed frames, chairs, tables, bookshelves, mattresses

Sporting equipment – racquets, snowboards, skis, surfboards, bikes

Furnishings – lights, lamps, flooring such as old floorboard, tiles, and carpet, doors

Appliances – kettles, toasters, sandwich press, blenders

White goods – fridges, washing machines, dryer, dishwasher

Outdoor – barbeques, lawnmower, trampolines, sheds, fences

How to Book a Hard Rubbish Collection

Booking a hard rubbish collection; all you need is a summary of the items you need taken away, so we can accurately assess the size vehicle we need for your rubbish, and the date you wish for the removal to happen.

Is the clutter in your home causing you some
serious grief? So much so, that every time the doorbell rings you’re praying
it’s Marie Kondo?

While we can’t promise her guest appearance in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Pine Rivers, Redlands, Redcliffe and anywhere in Greater Brisbane, we can help you to get on board the bandwagon and work some MK inspired magic in your home.

We’ve lined up our top picks from the tidying
guru’s tips that will help you to reorganise your home fast. Remember, the end
goal is to only be surrounded by items that make you happy!

Before we get started, here’s some food for
thought from MK- Define what sparks joy for you. Disregard whether it’s
practical or you ‘should’ keep it, and think about how it makes you feel.

1. More storage isn’t the solution!

First, figure out what you actually need to store.
Start by choosing things you want to keep, not get rid of. Once you’ve chosen
what will stay, decide where it’s going to be stored. Everything needs a home
or a space it can always be returned to. This way you’ll always know where to
find it!

When deciding on a storage solution, think
eco-friendly! Re-use cardboard boxes you already have instead of wasting money
on store bought containers and boxes.

2. De-clutter in a specific order

Depending on the size of the job, it may be smart to
break up your tidying sessions and target certain areas one at a time. We
understand you probably don’t want to dedicate an entire weekend to
de-cluttering, so tackle one focus area at a time and set aside a few hours
every week to complete it.

MK advises using a specific order:

Clothes

Books

Paper

Bathroom

Kitchen

Garage

Miscellaneous

Sentimental items

Why leave sentimental items until last? By the time
you’ve made your way through the list, you’ll have a true understanding of what
sparks joy. If you’re a ‘once you start
you can’t stop’ kind of person, feel
free to hit the list a little harder. Otherwise, get cracking on that wardrobe
this weekend!

3. Store everything upright

For those of us that are a little challenged when it
comes to folding clothes, this one might take more patience. However, once you
see and experience the difference, you’ll realise it’s worth your while! Ditch
the standard up and down stack where you can only see what’s on top. Instead,
store folded clothes in a drawer standing upright so they appear like a row of
book spines. This is a great system for keeping track of what colours and
patterns you already own so you don’t fall into the trap of ‘accidently’ owning
7 striped shirts. In addition, you won’t ruin the pile every time you dare wear
something from the bottom. There is no bottom, and everything is treated and
seen equally!

If origami is your idea of a nightmare, there’s no
need to stress! MK has got everything covered. Check out her folding tutorial here.

The New
Year marks a great time to start fresh and de-clutter your home! We’ve listed
the clutter hotspots in your home, how to target them, and some tips on keeping
your life clutter-free.

Mountains of paper and books, clothes piled to the sky, unfinished products and an overstocked pantry. Sound familiar? Clutter can take many forms in your home, <g class="gr_ gr_9 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="9" data-gr-id="9">however</g> it’s normally an abundance of unnecessary items, displaced or scattered around in an unorganised way. We’re all guilty of ‘saving’ or ‘collecting’ things we don’t have a regular use for. Not to mention the <g class="gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="8" data-gr-id="8">amount</g> of times our wants and desires can overcome our genuine needs.

Clutter-Prone Places in Your Home

There are certain parts of the home that seem to attract clutter at all costs, and it can build up rapidly before we even notice it happening! Inspect the hotspots in your home and decide which areas need to be targeted.

Cupboards & closets: Whether it’s linen, clothes, shoes, toys or books,
the cupboards in our homes are the kings of clutter. It’s easy to throw (or
hide!) things in cupboards to avoid seeing them all the time, and items like
clothing can get out of hand very quickly.

Bathroom: Bathrooms can often
house stacks of half empty shampoo bottles, a variety of moisturisers, old
toothbrushes and more. Plus, inadequate storage can worsen bathroom clutter.

Kitchen pantry:
Sales at the supermarket can lead to an over-stocked pantry and our busy
lifestyles can overcome our intentions to make home cooked meals on the regular.
Non-perishable items then start to find a permanent place in the pantry.

Garage: A place where larger
items can cause clutter!

Home office: Bills, mail,
newspapers and recycled paper can cause clutter amongst mounds of stationary.

Isolate the items you only need one of, choose your favourite and remove the rest.

Must-dos for a Clutter-Free Home

Set aside a few hours this month to
complete your de-clutter mission. There are a few strategies to use to ensure
your clean-up is efficient and successful!

Avoid simply ‘moving
things around’. If you’re going to de-clutter, do it right! Recycle, donate,
sell or throw it out.

Group things in your
home, whether it’s clothes, foods or products. This will allow you to decipher
between what you need and what can go.

De-clutter your
wardrobe by sorting through clothes and removing items that no longer fit, or
that you simply never wear.

Tips Moving Forward

Everyone has a different approach to living
a clutter-free life, and it’s about finding which organisational habits work
best for you. Here’s some tips to get you started.

Shop at zero-waste food stores. This will encourage you to buy as you need, and also allows you to buy specific amounts for certain recipes.

Switch to electronic mail and bills to avoid a buildup of paper.

Adopt the concept of one in, one out. When you want something new, try to donate or sell something you already own to make room for it.

Put things back in their home when you’re finished using them. It sounds simple and only takes a second, but this habit can completely stop clutter from appearing in the first place.

Don’t Fight Clutter Alone<g class="gr_ gr_13 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep" id="13" data-gr-id="13">!</g>

<g class="gr_ gr_13 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Style replaceWithoutSep" id="13" data-gr-id="13">Need</g> a helping hand?

Whether you’re cleaning up your house for sale, helping a loved one to move, or just trying to get rid of some clutter – you’re bound to encounter household rubbish that is simply too difficult to move on your own. So, what do you do when you find an appliance or piece of furniture that is too bulky to handle?

Professional rubbish removal services can be a great help! Taking any hazardous, large, recyclable, or miscellaneous unwanted items off your hands, a removalist ensures your rubbish is properly and safely disposed of, so you can stay stress-free.

What is household rubbish?

Over time, most of us accumulate some type of household waste; old appliances, unused pieces of furniture, broken toys or tools – they all seem to find their way into the back of our garages and cupboards.

Some typical examples of household rubbish you will find in Brisbane homes include:

Food waste (bottles, cans, food packaging, etc)

Furniture (beds, chairs, tables, cupboards, wardrobes, etc)

Flooring (carpets, rugs and wooden panelling)

Doors and shelving

Appliances and hot water systems

White goods (dryers, stoves, ovens and hobs, fridges, freezers and washing machines)

Outdoor items (fences, trampolines, greenhouses, garden sheds, etc)

Toys and miscellaneous decor items

Clothing

Car Tyres

Cost effective removal

There inevitably comes a time when we’re faced with having to clear away our backlog of rubbish. Having professional assistance in this can save you considerable time and headaches as you’re cleaning. Loading, transporting, and correctly disposing of your household rubbish can be a very demanding process, especially if you have multiple items to move and no experience dealing with waste of this size. Arranging for rubbish removalists will help you avoid accidental injury, as loading up skips with large items requires a lot of hard physical work that doesn’t bode well when you’re inexperienced.

Rather than endure these difficulties in the unforgiving Brisbane temperatures, leave it to the professionals. A rubbish removal service will be able to remove all items in one visit, regardless of their hazard, risk, or weight. Best of all, they will tide up after themselves, to save you even more time cleaning up the mess left behind. Extra large items can even be demolished first before they are trucked away, so you don’t have to worry about your items being too big to move.

Steve’s Rubbish Removals services the whole of Greater Brisbane and surrounding suburbs, 7 days a week. To get a quote and arrange a convenient time for you, all you have to do is give us a call on 07 3348 4735.

Christmas is right around the corner and with presents, Christmas lunch and tidying the house for the family to come over, there is often a lot of rubbish accumulated this time of year. During the Christmas and New Year break, Steve’s Rubbish Removals are open seven days a week, including public holidays! This means that even if you need green waste or household items collected on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, Steve’s Rubbish Removals can be there to take it off your hands.

Common types of rubbish removed around the Christmas period

People need to remove all kinds of rubbish around Christmas, some of them quite large. You may need to clear out garage items to make room for visiting family members. Christmas trees past their prime (both real and artificial) are often removed after Christmas, along with any home or garden furniture that has been replaced.

Our service offering

Large items are not a problem for Steve’s Rubbish Removals; anything too large for our vehicles we can break down on the spot into more manageable pieces. We are happy to take any and all of your green waste, including Christmas trees, garden cuttings, old yard furniture, packaging from new furniture and even summer storm debris. If your family gatherings have produced too much household and food waste for your wheelie bins, we can take all of that off your hands too.

Moving office spaces can become stressful and overwhelming. Without even realising, we can accumulate mounds of paperwork, electrical equipment and furniture. How do you decipher between what’s worthy of being kept, and what needs to go?

It depends greatly on your specific situation, your current and new office space, your field of work, and several other contributing factors. However, there are certain things that are consistent across many workspaces.

The team at Steve’s Rubbish Removal Brisbane we have got the low-down on what to keep, what to throw, and how to go about it. Get ready to form your office move checklist!

Hold On Tight!

There are some things that we aren’t destined to let go of… just yet! You may uncover the urge to throw these things amidst the move, however we recommend holding on tight!

Documents (Hard Copies):

While most important documents are filed electronically in modern day offices, there are certain documents that should be kept for certain periods of time with regards to legalities. These include:

Bank Deposit slips: 4 years

Cancelled cheques: 4 years

Contracts: 4 years

Employee expense reports: 4 years

Purchase invoices: 4 years

Time cards: 4 years

Export declarations: 4 years

Contracts: 6 years

Accident reports: 6 years

Personnel files (terminated): 7 years

Safety reports: 8 years

Claims after settlement: 10 years

Deeds, auditor reports, financial statements and tax returns should be kept permanently!

Useful Furniture:

The prospect of office relocation and a new workspace design can be exciting. However, don’t let the excitement overshadow the fact that some of your current office furniture could contribute to the beauty of your new space. Things like artwork and greenery are great for enhancing a space and can positively impact employee productivity. It’s also a nice touch to maintain a little tradition between your new and old office by keeping some similar features.

Take note of any pieces of timeless furniture in your current office. Re-using these will stop you from falling into a trap of furnishing your new office based on fads or trends.

Let Go!

It’s the sad truth that all good things must come to an end. When moving offices there are some things we must leave behind, whether they’re new, old, or just of no use.

Old Documents:

While it’s important to keep certain legal documents, it’s okay to be a little ruthless with disposing unnecessary paperwork! This can include brochures, old marketing materials and advertising packages, out-dated trade and other directories, old resumes, old trade journals, and out of date magazines.

The amount you dispose of can also serve as a reminder to limit paper use in the future!

Unused Furniture:

If there is unused furniture taking up space in your current office, and it’s not in good enough condition to resell, it’s time to go! Unlike your employees, the furniture’s productivity will not increase under a new office design.

Obsolete Electronics:

It may have been an expensive and innovative piece of equipment earlier in its life, but those days are gone. Out-dated electronic equipment can include old computers, telephones, photocopiers, printers and calculators. Remember it’s important to recycle your E-waste in an eco-friendly manner (which we can help with)!

Poof, and it’s Gone!

While the idea of throwing all your unwanted office supplies out the window seems entertaining; there’s an even easier way to get rid of it! You don’t even need to lift a finger! The team at Steve’s Rubbish Removals specialise in commercial waste removal and can assist the removal and recycling of furniture, fittings and E-waste. Save yourself time, effort and potential danger. Plus, we know exactly where to take your unwanted waste!

Clutter- it’s anything in your home that doesn’t add value to your life, and it can quickly become out of control! It’s beneficial to de-clutter your home, not only for the cleanliness of the home itself, but also for the wellbeing of all the wonderful people living inside of it. Simplify, minimise, and clear out what you no longer have use for.

De-cluttering your home can lead to a more organised way of life that incurs less stress! The team at Steve’s Rubbish Removals Brisbane have all the right advice on how to de-clutter your life, as well as top home organisation ideas.

Tip 1: Set goals

It’s important to set yourself achievable goals! The keyword here being ‘achievable’! Don’t bite off more than you can chew, and be sure to space out your tasks over reasonable time periods. Don’t aim to complete your entire list in one day! Do it over the space of a week or more, in order to maintain your motivation and limit frustration.

It’s a great idea to sort your home into sections or ‘clutter hot spots’. Plan your time accordingly and create completion dates so you stay on track.

Tip 2: Start the Clock

De-cluttering your home does take time, but the results are worthwhile! You may not be able to click your fingers and achieve the outcome, but your dedication over a period of time will pay off. Remember to stay motivated!

It’s also important to acknowledge that to maintain a de-cluttered space, you need to have ongoing goals in place. You’ll need to regularly set aside a small amount of time for upkeep!

Tip 3: Remove Rubbish

A great place to start is with rubbish removal. Have some garbage bags handy and prepare to say your final farewell to all the unwanted clutter. Be sure to shred any personal paperwork before discarding it, and remove the garbage bags from the house as soon as they’re full. If you wish to discard items that are of no use to you, but could be for others; set aside a bag of items you can drop off at a charity.

If the rubbish removal process becomes overwhelming, consider teaming up with us so we can assist you! Steve’s Rubbish Removals can help with all kinds of household rubbish removal in the Brisbane area, including furniture, appliances, shelving, clothing, toys, and general junk.

Tip 4: Get it Sorted!

To avoid organising your clutter into even more clutter, create a sorting system! You can create your own method, or use the popular three box sorting system. It’s as straightforward as finding three boxes and labelling them as such:

KEEP: Empty this box after you de-clutter an area, and then place the items in their newly allocated homes. Ideally, these things should be stored neatly!

GET RID OF IT: Store this box outside your home and get it ready for transportation, donation, recycling or a garage sale.

STORAGE: Move the items in this box to your storage containers and label them accordingly.

Tip 5: Wave Goodbye!

There isn’t a fourth box for ‘MAYBES’ in the three-box sorting system. Be stern in your decision-making and properly consider the odds of you using the item again. Ask yourself whether something is broken, out-dated, unusable, or if you’ve purchased an updated version. If you answer yes to one or more of these points, the item probably has no place in your future life.

De-cluttering and organising doesn’t have to be a painful process! Get motivated, and look forward to living in a beautiful, clutter-free home!
